What Type of Diabetes Diet to Follow

Diabetes is one of the deadly diseases in the world today and every year, thousands of people discover they have diabetes. Nearly every year, all around the world, people die because of diabetes. This disease comes in two type, Type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes. It is very important for anyone suffering from it to know the type of diabetes they have for them to be able to follow the right type diabetes diet. This is because diet plans for each type are specific. If you are a type 1 diabetic patient, you have to follow the plan accordingly, and it goes the same when you are a type 2 diabetic patient.

We all know that even children suffers diabetes as well and there are specific diets they can try to somehow cure and lessen the chances of developing other complications in the body. Below is a strict diet plan adults and children should follow:

Adults do not have specific diet plans. But you can still manage your diabetes through the food you eat. The common and usual advices we hear talks about having a low fat diet. This is applicable for diabetic people.

It is also advisable for them to regularly take their meal especially their breakfast and that they should not forget to go light with their meals. Any food with fat can cause digestion rate to go down while raising cholesterol level. Carbohydrates should also be minimized because they turn into sugar that may worsen the condition. Watch your carbohydrate intake and consider the other nutrients needed during the day.

Infants and children with Type 1 diabetes also follow the same guidelines as the adults. Parents are responsible into tracking the amount of carbohydrate they take during the day. Breakfast should not be skipped and the rest of the other meals should be comprised with a third of carbohydrates, a third of protein and of course a third of vegetables or fruits.

For Type 2 diabetes patients, their food intake is designated to control the level of sugar in the body. A person with diabetes in this type is usually the result of excessive food intake which turns them into becoming overweight. Dietitians then recommend to these patients the list of exact foods diabetics are allowed to take to somehow provide cure and at the same time give the body all of the nutrients it needs. They usually recommend patients to follow the food pyramid guide which is classified into 6 layers. The two bottom part, the largest portion in the pyramid included high fiber diet food like wheat and rice, preferably unpolished. It also includes the lists of vegetables and fruits low in sugar.

Found at the top level of the pyramid are the foods that should be eliminated. These foods contain oils, grease, fats and refined sugar. All of these foods increase the sugar level in the blood. Cakes, dairy products, sweet candies, cookies and other sugary types are few examples. Following the pyramid will help you monitor your daily sugar intake.
