How to reduce cholesterol? This is the most common question that we usually hear from the people who are overweight and also to those people who are scared in developing cardiovascular diseases because of cholesterol. What are steps that we can follow to lower the amount of cholesterol in our body? Are there any procedure that we can perform to lower it? How to reduce cholesterol? Here are some guidelines that we can use and very helpful to lower the cholesterol level in our body.

- Use unsaturated fat instead of saturated fat in your diet

- Select the foods that are rich in complex carbohydrates like starch and fiber

- Reducing the weight if you are overweight

There's a lot of things that we can do to improve our cholesterol level. Eating healthy foods can lower the bad cholesterol in the body ( also known as LDL), healthy foods can protect our body in development of any damage because of cholesterol. We can lower the LDL by quitting smoking if the person is smoker, losing weight for those who are overweight and also performing exercise.

Cholesterol is one of the factors that our body needs to have a good health, but too much of it can raise the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases like heart attack or stroke. The cholesterol that is not needed in our body or the excess cholesterol may be stored in the arteries that can cause of narrowing of them. It can lead to blockage of the artery and there will be no enough blood supply that will be delivered in the heart and if it happen heart attack may occur. And if the part that has been blocked is the artery which supply blood to the brain it can lead to stroke.

Here are some of the foods that we MUST EAT and MUST AVOID to lower our cholesterol level:

Eat MORE of the following foods:

- Fish, poultry without the skin, lean beef

- Skim or low

- fat milk

- Sherbet, sorbet

- Egg whites

- Steamed vegetables

- Baked potatoes

- Clear soups

- Unsaturated vegetable oils: corn, canola, safflower, sesame, sunflower, olive and soy bean

- Angel food cake

- Graham crackers, animal crackers, fig bars, vanilla wafers

- Pancakes or cereal with low

- fat milk

- Fruit

Eat LESS of the following foods:

- Sausage, organ meats ( like Liver)

- Whole milk

- Ice cream

- Egg yolks

- Buttered or fried vegetables

- French fries

- creamed soups

- Saturated fats: butter, coconut oil, palm oil, lard, bacon fat

- Cheesecake

- Pastries, doughnuts

- Refined carbohydrates and sugars

- Eggs and bacon
