Fish Oil For Cholesterol Reduction - An Alternative to Statins and Their Side Effects

I have only recently discovered fish as an aid to cholesterol reduction. It is quite some time now since I had a thorough medical examination. It went quite well apart from...

The cholesterol report! My overall cholesterol was high. My bad cholesterol was high and good cholesterol low. The ratio between them was high, as was my triglyceride level.

I was given a stern warning about my diet and my weight, and told what to eat and how much exercise I should do. If this wasn't showing some results in a few weeks, statins would have to be considered.

Now I am someone who avoids taking medication at all costs. I will only do it if there is absolutely no alternative. I don't even like to take a aspirin, let alone something serious.

If seemed that there was almost a campaign going on to get people onto statins. But then I started to hear scare stories about the side effects of statins and was not happy at all.

Then I found out about omega 3 fish oil and its beneficial effects in this area. Some authorities, like the American Heart Association, seemed totally convinced of the benefits of omega 3.

They were not so convinced of the need for supplements though. Except, for people who have been told that they need to lower their cholesterol and triglycerides!

I investigated immediately and found what I believe to be the best quality and purest fish oil supplement available. It is now apart of my daily routine and will remain so.

There are allegedly many other health benefits associated with omega 3 fish oil but for me, cholesterol reduction is the main goal. Anything else is a bonus.
