Medication Isn't the Only Way to Reduce Cholesterol - Learn How and Why

It's Not Difficult.

Once you have accepted you have a problem with high cholesterol you'll probably now be wondering how to deal with it. You may want to do this naturally, avoiding a visit to your doctor and the associated issues of medication that brings. Can this even be done you may ask, well thankfully in the majority of cases it can. If you want to reduce cholesterol without medication then you need to make changes to the way you live and the food you eat.

First Up: Diet.

Cutting back on the amount of food you eat, in particular fatty, cholesterol loaded food is a must. Both saturated and trans fat will raise your cholesterol level and are found in fatty and processed meats, a variety of dairy products and many other food substances. These types of foods will increase the amount of LDL (the bad cholesterol) in your body whilst concurrently decreasing your level of good cholesterol (HDL) and subject your body to plaque filled arteries that will only result in one thing, heart disease.

Improve The Cholesterol in Your Body.

There is fortunately, a good type of cholesterol that is found in certain foods and finding and eating these foods will help you reduce cholesterol without medication. Fish, especially oily and fatty fish as well as nuts and oat products have been proven to reduce levels of bad cholesterol just as well, if not better than medication. If you have the will power to change your diet, start by eating these types of food and you will notice the difference soon. Not only will stave off that trip to the doctor but furthermore, it will prevent the unnecessary cost of having to buy prescription drugs. Eating good food is imperative when trying to reduce cholesterol, however it's not the only method you should adopt. There are other changes to your daily life that you must include to boost your health.

Take Some Exercise and Relax a Little.

Include 30 minutes or more of moderate exercise for five or more days a week and you will speed up the cholesterol reduction process. Exercise also has the added benefit of increasing your bodies overall health and you will start to feel great about your body again. Plus, it will lower the levels of bad cholesterol and raise the good cholesterol you have. You will lose weight and this too will assist in raising HDL. The result of all this, a healthy body that you feel good about, low levels of bad and high levels of good cholesterol and most importantly you will have significantly reduced the risks of heart illness.

As a final note, if you can reduce your stress levels you will also be fighting off that high cholesterol. Stress at home or at work can contribute to high levels of cholesterol and taking it a little easier on a day to day basis you will be helping that little bit more reduce cholesterol without taking medication.
