Proper Diet Can Help You Live Longer

These days, it seems diet may be important for a variety of reasons. For many, the idea of diet plays a bigger role in how one appears and how well one fits into his or her jeans more than anything else. But for the vast majority of the population, diet has become essential for survival and ignoring the body's demand for a stricter, healthier diet will only result in one thing: death. In other words, if many of us do not alter our current dietary habits, we will die a lot sooner than we might have otherwise planned or wanted.

There are many illnesses that arise as a result of a poor diet. The following three are obviously the most popular these days, but they are certainly not the only life-threatening illnesses that arise as a result of poor diet.

1. Diabetes. Arguably the most aggressive, quickest growing disease among adults, diabetes impacts the body's natural ability to produce sufficient insulin levels. To ensure that blood-sugar levels remain safe, diabetics must regulate their blood-sugar through regular medication, normally injected by syringe into the body. Diabetes is also commonly believed to reduce one's normal life expectancy. Where diet and diabetes do not see eye to eye is in the body's (in)ability to fight off those higher sugar levels. If insulin is not introduced into the body quickly enough, the diabetic could endure seizures, a coma, or even death. Although some diabetics are born with this disease, others can reduce or completely eliminate their chance of developing diabetes through diet. In fact, some types of diabetes can be controlled through diet alone.

2. Heart conditions. Given the amount of cholesterol and other fats in many of the foods we eat every day, it is not wonder that so many people who do not follow a strict diet develop heart conditions that significantly reduces their life expectancy. This happens through many different avenues, including the clogging of major arteries which typically leads to heart attack. Following a diet (such as low fat, low carb, low sugar diets) that keeps the arteries and blood flow to the heart natural and easy reduces the likelihood of heart attack.

3. Cancer. There are many different types of cancer that can be said to result from poor diet. More common, however, is that obesity increases the potential for an individual to develop cancer. Foods such as fast foods and other high fat, high cholesterol foods can result in severe obesity as well as cause problems with parts of the body, such as the colon, gastro-intestinal system, stomach, and so on.

The three diseases above are extremely scary and very real. By adopting a proper diet plan, the likelihood of developing any of these three conditions can greatly reduced and almost eliminated in many cases. This means that diet is no important solely for weight loss reasons for life expectancy reasons as well and as a result it could very well be the most important aspect of your life as well!
