Planning Your Menu If You Have High Cholesterol

Planning a high cholesterol menu for yourself or a loved one that has been diagnosed with high cholesterol may initially seem overwhelming. Reality is that the menu may be different from the foods that you are used to but they are not difficult to cook and can be made in a way that is both tasty and quick to fix if that must be a consideration. Studies say that it takes 3 weeks to develop a new habit and you will find that this is much the same; the more you plan the new menu for high cholesterol the easier it will become.

You may wish to start by making two separate lists, one list will contain all of the foods that you are allowed to eat and those that you will soon learn are good for lowering your LDL levels. The other list will contain a list of foods that you have been told to avoid or to eat only in limited amounts. These lists will be your guidelines when planning your high cholesterol menu and as you look for new recipes.

Keep in mind a few simple guidelines as you plan, menus should all be low in saturated fats and keep unsaturated fats to an acceptable amount that will allow for weight loss. Avoid fried foods, and processed and refined foods, and substitute white flour and white rice for their whole grain counterparts. Include plenty of fresh raw and cooked vegetables and be sure to include an ample amount of fresh fruits.

You will find many cook books and websites that are dedicated both to healthy eating and cholesterol lowering, strive to find those that take a more moderate and balanced approach, this will make the high cholesterol menu much easier to follow. Since compliance is the number one reason why many people find it difficult to use diet to lose weight and lower cholesterol it is important to be sure that your menu is realistic, appealing and easy to follow as this will increase your chances of succeeding with your new diet.

I have benefited greatly from a book which has examined the link between what we eat and cholesterol. If you would like to know what foods are attacking your body and what supplements you must take, then this book is a must read. how-to-lower-cholesterol.info How to Lower Cholesterol
