How to Lower Your Cholesterol Naturally, Without Statins

You've been told that your cholesterol levels are too high and statins are recommended. But you are looking for ways on how to lower your cholesterol naturally. You don't want to take statins. You know they can cause cancer in rodents.

By searching for natural ways to lower your cholesterol, you may discover, that in fact, you don't even need to lower your cholesterol. It's just fine the way it is.

Cholesterol is not a nasty poison in your blood that needs to be controlled. It is a normal and natural product of your liver, essential to your good health. If you consume a lot of cholesterol in your diet, your liver will slow down its production. If you eat little, you liver will increase its production.

Cholesterol on its own is not the problem. However, if it is damaged, then it is. And this comes about from heating it to high temperatures and by processing it.

Consuming raw meat will not affect you. Consuming cooked meat does affect you. Cooking causes the damage.

Cholesterol is carried to your arteries by LDL, the low density lipoprotein. It is carried away from your arteries to your liver by the HDL, the high density lipoprotein.

If you have a high reading of LDL, it means you have a high level of damaged cholesterol in your blood. And it's the high levels of LDL that can contribute to heart disease. If your HDL reading is high, it means you don't have a problem with damaged cholesterol. By lowering your cholesterol in general may lower your LDL, but it also lowers your HDL.

It is often suggested that your level should be 70 mg/dL. This is very low and can contribute to a deficiency n vitamin D, to depression, to a hormonal imbalance, even to a stroke. By lowering the level, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of sales of statins. Who benefits most from this?

More important are the ratios of HDL to cholesterol and of triglycerides to HDL The former should be at least 25%, more preferably. The latter should be 2.0 or lower.

When these ratios are in order and you don't consume any (or little) damaged cholesterol, then it has been shown that it really doesn't matter if the reading is 350 mg/dL (9.0 mmol/L) or more.

So you can easily lower your readings by changing your diet, but consider whether you really need to, by getting the test results and doing the calculations yourself.

Take control of your health yourself. No-one has more interest in it, than you do.
