Another good method to introduce to your diet is to reduce the amount of animal-based foods that you eat. Lowering you intake of these foods will lower the amount saturated fat your body takes on board. It's a known fact that one of the main contributors to high cholesterol is saturated fat. To reduce the amount of saturated fat you take, try avoiding foods such as duck, goose, red meat that has visible fat, processed meats like (sausage, bologna, and salami).

Whilst on the subject of avoiding foods, be on the lookout for foods containing trans-fats. Just lately, main fast food chains such as KFC and Burger King have opted to steer away from foods containing trans-fats.

That doesn't mean that they are great sources for healthy foods, but it's a step in the right direction. Another good tip is to always read the labels on food. Especially words like vegetable oils or hydrogenated. Words like these are a good indicator that the food is high in Tran's fats, also look in the nutrition guide and look for saturated fat.
