What are triglycerides? Triglycerides are major components of LDL or low density lipoprotein. This LDL is what is known as "bad" cholesterol and higher triglyceride levels have been shown to be in relation to lower levels of HDL, high density lipoprotein which is the "good" cholesterol. If it is determined that raised levels of triglycerides are present, then some form of cholesterol triglyceride lowering diet should be implemented.
Sensibility in Fat Intake.
An example of a cholesterol triglyceride lowering diet should contain aggressive changes in the daily intake of food. These changes should include fat intake, sodium intake, and of course cholesterol intake. No more than thirty percent of the daily caloric intake should consist of any type of fat. Saturated fat should be less than ten percent. The more that fat intake is limited the better. Cholesterol intake should be limited to less than three hundred milligrams. It is important to note that the human body produces all the cholesterol it needs naturally. So, if one were to totally eliminate cholesterol from the diet there would be no detrimental effects.
Exercise to Lower Cholesterol.
Once some form of cholesterol triglyceride lowering diet is implemented, a way to hasten the lowering of blood cholesterol levels would be to also implement an aerobic exercise program. This program should consist of at least three periods per week of aerobic exercise lasting approximately thirty minutes each. This aerobic exercise will help strengthen the cardiovascular system and also help the body metabolize the excess cholesterol and triglycerides.
The Three Part Combination.
The best course of action to take is to combine a three part program. The first two parts consisting of diet and exercise and the third being the use of herbal supplements. These herbal supplements should consist of all natural ingredients such as extracts of sugar cane, soy, rice and citrus families. These ingredients have been shown to lower cholesterol as much as some prescription medications but without all those wondrous side effects.
A good place to start the search for these supplements would be with herbals from New Zealand. As an added benefit, herbal supplements are far cheaper than prescription drugs, which is meaningful to the tens of millions of people that do not have health insurance. Saving money is a beautiful thing and if doctors had just a little more intelligence and compassion they might understand that all those side effect bearing medications are far too expensive.
You have the power to extend your life by eating a sensible diet, giving the couch a break and getting some exercise, and finding the right herbal supplements to form a daily regimen of good health.
