Diets abound that claim to be the best diet to reduce cholesterol and with so many diets making such claims it can be hard to understand what is the best way to reduce your cholesterol through diet. To understand what diet to choose to get the job done you must first understand what a good cholesterol diet should look like. In the end most diets have these things in common and will all lower your cholesterol, it just becomes a matter of which diet it would be easiest for you to stick with.
A diet to reduce cholesterol will be low in saturated fats, and will include moderate amounts of fats with omega 3s; this is perhaps one of the most important parts of your diet regimen. Omega 3s are very important to lowering your cholesterol and can be obtained thru fish and plant sources. Foods such as salmon, trout, mackerel, flaxseeds, nuts, leafy greens and olives are all excellent sources of this important nutrient and should be included in your diet.
Another important factor of your diet to reduce cholesterol should be the amount of fruits and vegetables that you consume. This is perhaps the most important part of your diet so should be the focus of any diet regimen that you start. Fruits and vegetables contain plant sterols, fiber and antioxidants all of which are extremely important nutrients to help lower cholesterol. In addition to this almost all fruits and vegetables are very low in fat and what fats they do contain are usually the heart healthy fats you want to add to your diet.
Finally a diet to reduce cholesterol should contain ample amounts of whole grains, beans and should not have large amounts of sugar or processed foods. By following these guidelines when choosing your diet program you will be assured of finding a diet that will give you the best chance of lowering your cholesterol regardless of which diet you choose.
I have benefited greatly from a book which has examined the link between what we eat and cholesterol. If you would like to know what foods are attacking your body and what supplements you must take, then this book is a must read. how-to-lower-cholesterol.info Lower Your Cholesterol
