Further, the fiber in the food gives a feeling of fullness so hunger is curbed. Best of all, they taste good so the person does not feel deprived at all.

An example of a low-fat smoothie recipe has a half pound of cherries, a medium-sized banana, one cup of low-fat chocolate milk and vanilla. Preparation only involves pitting the cherries, slicing the banana, putting all ingredients in a blender and blending until smooth. The total calorie content of a glass of this drink is 218 but only 22 calories is attributed to fat. Moreover, it has only 2.5 grams of fat and 3 milligrams of cholesterol. In contrast, the milkshakes typically found in fast food chains have approximately 500 calories, 14 grams of fat, 72 grams of sugar and 55 milligrams of cholesterol.

Hence, whenever you have a craving for that tall glass of milkshake, why not go for a low-fat smoothie instead? Not only will you be drinking a beverage that is as delicious as a milkshake, you will also be getting essential vitamins and minerals without the guilt.
