The Buzz About Cholesterol - Is Fat a Four Letter Word?

There are two or more kinds of fats, the "good" fats we can eat without affecting the cholesterol levels adversely and maybe even help to keep the cholesterol level down. The recommended kinds of fats are found in olive oil, nuts, fish, avocados, flaxseed, soy

The best kind of fiber to keep healthy cholesterol levels is konjac root and rye, when we talk about fiber is whole grain fiber not the processed types like in flour. Konjac root comes from Asia and can be found in supplements and there is also a product that is like noodles that can be used in place of pasta. What konjac root does is it slows the absorption of sugar and fats from the gut and can reduce blood sugar and cholesterol. Whole grain rye bread and crackers can be purchased in health food stores and online.

Let's talk about high-fructose corn syrup, this is what happens when we eat high-fructose corn syrup, and I bet after you read this you will start reading labels and not ever eat it again...it is absorbed more quickly that regular sugar, once inside your cells it becomes an uncontrolled source of carbon that is made into cholesterol and triglycerides, what this means is that eating high-fructose corn syrup makes your cholesterol level shoot straight up, can cause problems with your liver and slow your metabolism down and can also lead to high blood pressure.

Another interesting facts are that lowering your cholesterol may reduce your body's ability to create gallstones; it is also thought and suspected that sugar may increase the amount of cholesterol in your body.

Looking at these statements, fat is not the only culprit to high cholesterol; we need fiber and healthy fats to keep it low. Refer to my article on healthy fats and oils and stock up your kitchen with them and throw out the others. They are not only healthy they have good flavors. It is not always the cholesterol that is in the foods, but the way the body processes the foods so to read and know your foods you put in your body is very important.

You also do not want to lower your HDL (good cholesterol) one glass of red wine, vitamin C, vitamin E and heart pumping exercise will do the trick with this, also you need to avoid tobacco.

The New Year is bearing down on us, let's take a look at our diets and decide to have the healthiest year yet....2008.
