An Overview of the Nutrisystem Diet and a List of the Celebrities Who've Endorsed and Been on It

The Nutrisystem diet may be best known as the diet on which many celebrities publicly dropped a lot of weight. Below is a list of famous people who've signed on with the company.

Women Celebrities: The women celebrity spokespersons have included Tori Spelling, Jillian Barberie, Marie Osmond, Danielle Fishel (Boy Meets World), and Zora Andrich (from Joe Millionaire).

Postpartum Weight Loss: Nutrisystem is also known as the celebrity postpartum diet, as Tori Spelling and Jillian Barberie both lost over 40 pounds after giving birth to their children. (Tori with son Liam and Jillian with daughter Ruby). Following this weight loss, Tori Spelling showed off her new figure and bared a lot of skin for Pussy Cat Dolls while Jillian Barberie paraded around in a bikini proving that, even at 40, mothers can be extremely fit.

Men Celebrities: Because this diet plan has a very popular men's diet, the company has obtained men celebrity spokespersons as well, including Dan Marino (ex NFL quarterback), Joey Fatone (Dancing With The Stars, N Sync), ex NFL coach Don Shula, and comedians Larry The Cable Guy And Ant (host of Celebrity Fit Club).

An Overview Of The Nutrisystem Diet: Whether you are famous or not, the diet works in the same way. It is prepackaged meal replacement plan. This means that, five times per day, you'll eat the diet's prepackaged meals and add your own healthy additions like fruits and vegetables, or yogurt. The foods are low calorie, low in carbohydrates, and high in protein. This situation sets up your body to burn its own fat, since there are not many carbs available for this purpose. The meals are very easy to assemble, with most being grab and go, and others only requiring minimal preparation.

Wide Variety Of Decent Tasting Comfort Food Choices: In my opinion, the best thing about this diet, (and probably the reason that it is so popular) is that there are many food choices (over 130) that include comfort foods, snacks, and desserts. There is pizza, macaroni and cheese, tacos, chocolate cake, ravioli, and cereals, muffins, and pancakes. And this is only the tip of the ice berg. I included these examples because they appeal to me, but everyone is different. Even if you are extremely picking as I am, there's probably something that you will like.

And although you are technically on a low carb diet, you will not feel like you are. I find that the taste of the food is not too bad with a few exceptions. (I can not stomach the stroganoff.) And, unlike most other low carb diets, you aren't eating meat all day / everyday and consuming large amounts of fat and cholesterol.

Cost / Effectiveness: The company says that the plan is designed so that dieters lose about 2 pounds per week. Of course, all the celebrities seem to do better than this and make it look oh so easy. Keep in mind Marie Osmond and Joey Fatone were kicking it up on Dancing With The Stars, and Jillian Barberie freely admits she had to work out postpartum for their first time in her life.

Still, it's pretty clear that if you add some sort of exercise into your routine, you'll enhance your results. It doesn't have to be drudgery either. Just chose something you already like to do and kick that up a bit, like dancing, roller blading, or power walking. You're also given a free work out video with all purchases.

The cost of Nutrisystem is around $10 per day, but there are usually specials running that throw in free shipping, extras / freebies or discounts. Considering the cost of gas and groceries today, this really isn't too bad. You only pay for your food (no membership fees), and they offer free weight loss counseling.
