South Beach Diet - The Choice Between Good Foods and Bad Foods

The south beach diet was invented by a cardiologist, Dr. Arthur Agatston, as well as a dietician, Marie Almon, for their patients suffering from heart disease. South beach diet, on the other hand, classifies foods either as good or bad. However, a well balanced diet is still the most important thing, so instead of eliminating carbohydrates and fat, choosing the right nutrients is taught to the dieters. Bad carbohydrates refer to carbohydrates that are being digested quickly like rice and sugar. Because these foods are rapidly digested, it would cause sudden increase in blood glucose level. So dieters should prompt try to consume carbohydrates found in vegetables and whole grains as these are slowly digested and absorbed by the body. In terms of choosing the right fat, bad fat means trans-fat and saturated fat. Dieters should avoid fatty meat and oil as these contain bad fats. They should go for good fats that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, high density lipoprotein cholesterol and unsaturated fats like fish oils, olive oil, lean meats and oily fishes. The right eating habit is all about making the right choices of food so be knowledgeable of the right one to eat.

This diet has three phases. The first phase lasts for two weeks wherein carbohydrates, sugar and fruits are temporarily eliminated from the daily diet in order to eliminate hunger pangs. In the second phase, carbohydrates and fruits are brought back in the diet. And in the third and final phase, there is no specific food restricted to the dieter. Instead, the dieter is expected to choose the right kinds of food that must be eaten as he already know the good from the bad ones.
