Cholesterol - Eating the Right Food With Good Cholesterol

Dark chocolate packs twice the punch as far as healthy oxidant goes in relation to red wine. Walnuts can help to lower cholesterol.As far as healthy diets go red wine just doesn't cut it when compared to Dark Chocolate. Dark Chocolate contains super high levels of flavonols. It has been shown that people with high blood levels of flavonoids have a lower risk of heart disease. People that are diet rich in cocoa powder and dark chocolate have lower oxidation levels of bad LDL cholesterol, higher blood oxidation levels and higher levels of good HDL cholesterol.

Nuts are good health foods and walnuts are the healthiest around as far as cholesterol is concerned. Walnuts are rich in a healthy oil known as alpha-linolenic acid is known to lower cholesterol. This oil is also contained in olive oil, flaxseed oil, linseed oil, canola oil, soybean oil, and the salad green called purslane.

Oat bran is rich in soluble fiber. Soluble fiber binds with cholesterol in the intestine and aids in removing it from the body. Fiber is a very necessary ingredient in our diet to aid in food digestion. Fiber can be increased in our diet by a minimum daily serving of five fruits and vegetables, three servings of whole-grain foods, and one serving of beans.

Onions and garlic are both known to lower cholesterol and both can be taken by being cooked with your food or if preferred garlic can be taken by garlic supplements following label recommendations for daily usage.

Foods we grow in the unprocessed form are low in the fat found in meat and dairy products. It is beneficial to eat three to six ounces of fish twice a week to gain the addition of an oil rich in omega-3 and omega-6, a fatty acid which helps to reduce clots in the arteries.
