The Effects Cholesterol Has on the Human Body

Are you aware of your cholesterol? Cholesterol is the fat in your body which produces something called lipid which is known to make new cells. The primary organ in charge of producing cholesterol is your liver; however, cholesterol is also produced by the food you consume. Your body only needs some cholesterol to perform its job. If you have too much cholesterol, it starts to build up in your blood vessels that carry blood away from the heart. This reduces the amount of blood that flows from your heart to the rest of your body. This process is also called arthrosclerosis which can lead to serious problems including heart attacks and stroke.

A recent study revealed that twenty percent of adults in American suffer from high cholesterol. Unfortunately, less than fifty percent of adults reported that they got tested before their cholesterol increased. Researchers recommend that you check your cholesterol at least once a year. People who suffer from high cholesterol where shown to not having any symptoms of such fact.

A simple blood test will tell you what your cholesterol number is. Based on your cholesterol number you doctor will determine your risk of heart attacks. If your number is more than 200 you have high cholesterol. It is important that you ask your doctor for a list of things you could do to lower your cholesterol.

Some of the things you could start doing to lower you cholesterol are the following:

1. Avoid consuming saturated and trans fats such as meats, whole milk, eggs, butter, cheese, crackers and chips.

2. Include more organic vegetables, fruits and low or nonfat products in your diet.
