What About a Low Fat Protein Diet?

This is a question many of us wonder about. We are all looking for that "magical" secret to losing weight and the Atkins one is our there and very popular. So, maybe it is a good idea to have a look at it, and if it is even possible.

A look at this kind of eating plan:

1. It is high fat:

This way of eating, by nature, is a high fat eating plan. You are allowed to prepare food with lots of oil, butter and cream. The food itself is also high in it, such as lots of red meat. This cannot be healthy and will probably play havoc with your cholesterol levels.

2. Fruit is excluded:

You are not allowed to consume any carbs and even fruit, because of its high carb contents, is excluded. For me that is the first "red flag" going up. It is true that you need to limit your consumption of fruit because of its high calorie content, but it is not healthy to cut it out completely.

3. Even vegetables are limited:

Here we get to another problem. Because carbs need to be limited, even vegetables need to be limited. You are not allowed to eat unlimited amounts of vegetables, and some very healthy veggies are excluded because of their carbohydrate contents.

4. Meat:

On this eating plan you end up eating mostly meat. This cannot possibly be healthy. Any weight loss plan that excludes whole food groups must be considered very suspicious.

5. No carbohydrates:

On this kind of eating plan, you are not allowed to eat any carbs. The result of this will be that you will get very tired. You will not have enough fuel for your daily activities and a little healthy, moderate exercise. Any weight loss program that makes exercise difficult must be considered with great suspicion!

Even though you want to burn excess weight, you still have to be able to continue with your daily activities in a normal way. With not carbs in your diet, that will become very difficult in the long run.

After taking a look at this kind of diet it is clear that a low fat protein diet will be extremely difficult to stick to. Your food choices will be extremely limited because of the "natural" high fat contents of most protein foods. You may end up living on steamed fish and grilled chicken with a little vegetables. This will spell disaster to your health in the long run and cannot be recommended at all.
