What is the Recommended Cholesterol Level?

What is the recommended cholesterol level anyway? There are a lot of conflicting data out there, so let's take a look at the levels you want your HDL, LDL and even triglycerides to be at. In order to get the data I need I went to the Mayo Clinic's website, which is one of the most trustworthy sources for cholesterol data.

They recommend that your total cholesterol should be 200 mg/dL or below. For Canadians and most Europeans the number is below 5.2 mmol/L. It is always better to be closer to 150 and even 100, so keep that in mind.

When it comes to low-density lipoprotein (LDL) you want to be around 100 mg/dL, or 2.6 mmol/L for Canadians and Europeans. Then we have high-density lipoprotein (HDL) which should be above 60 mg/dL or 1.5 mmol/L.

Another point to keep in mind is that U.S. guidelines differ a bit from Canadian and European guidelines, so use these numbers as a rough estimate. If you're closing in on the high side, like most people, then you might want to look at changing your diet and exercising more.

One popular alternative lately has become using natural cholesterol supplements that contain 100% pure and natural ingredients that have been proven effective in lowering cholesterol. A good example of an ingredient that is extremely effective in reducing your cholesterol levels naturally is policosanol, which has been proven by scientific data.

Last, but not least we have triglyceride levels, which should be below 150 mg/dL or 1.7 mmol/L. Preferably you want them even lower than that. The bad news is that most people have high cholesterol today, which will most likely negatively impact their health in the future. If you want to avoid this, I highly recommend you do your research and educate yourself on the options available today.
