High protein diets have been extremely popular for years but recent studies have shown that these diets can cause a number of things such as bad breath, digestive issues and even kidney disorders. Our bodies were not made to follow any diet that concentrates on one food group to the exclusion of others.
A good diet plan is one that will combine all the necessary nutrients that your body needs so that it can function at its best. There are two main types of nutrients found in food; macronutrients and micronutrients. Macronutrients are what you would find in carbohydrates, protein, fats and water. Micronutrients are what vitamins and minerals consist of. Your body requires both forms to flourish and the best way to ensure that you get them is if you eat them in the right quantities.
Sticking to a high protein low carb diet may not be the ideal situation. Although we need proteins to produce amino acids which are used to make cells and tissues, you can easily put on weight if you eat too much of the wrong sources of protein. Fatty red meats and full fat dairy products are definitely all great sources of protein but when eaten to excess, it could cause heart disease, high cholesterol and many other related health problems.
The key to any good diet plan is moderation. By combining good protein, fruits, vegetables and grains in a balanced diet, you are sure to lose weight while staying healthy.
