Which Diets Should You Use to Reduce Your Cholesterol and Why

Don't Suffer. Make the Change.

If you suffer from high cholesterol and lack the discipline to make the required change to your lifestyle then you will suffer from adverse health; in particular, heart illness. However, you have the ability to prevent this from happening and you can do this by making relatively effortless changes in to your daily diets to reduce cholesterol and prevent heart disease.

What Diets Reduce Cholesterol?

You want to reduce your cholesterol and you want to do it naturally and your diet is the key to this. Start reducing your intake of high cholesterol foods, these are all the fatty things that you no doubt enjoy eating for pudding, for snack breaks or when you stop off at the local fast food joint. Replace all these foods with plant based foods; vegetables, fruit and whole grains. Brown pasta and cereals are high in fiber and starch and low in fats, another great starting place. Be careful, however, as bakery produced products may well include fatty and cholesterol ridden ingredients, like butter, milk and eggs to give it that extra appeal. To reduce your cholesterol with your diet try and eat a couple of portions of these types of food per meal. Don't eat more than this as you don't want a diet too rich in carbohydrate and too low in fat otherwise your body will increase its own cholesterol production and you clearly don't need or want that.

Next, eat less animal products as part of your diets. Animal products are frequently very high in cholesterol and saturated fat. Saturated fat, if you didn't already know is extremely bad for your system, even worse than cholesterol alone. The majority of red meats, processed meats such as hot dogs or bologna and any meat where you can see the fat in it will raise instead of reduce your cholesterol level. Furthermore, animal products such as butter, cheese and eggs all contain high amounts of cholesterol; take these out of your diet as well, or at least significantly reduce your consumption of them.

Give Yourself a Little Treat Now and Then.

All this may seem a little draconian and perhaps cutting delicious fatty foods out of your diet completely is. However, to reduce your cholesterol with your diet you must at least significantly reduce the amount you eat. Try giving yourself a time, once a week, when you allow yourself that cake or steak or whatever your vice is. This will give you something to look forward to each week and remind you what you are doing and why.
