It never happens fast enough, does it? Once you decide to lose weight you want it all to come off tomorrow: even better today. But that's not going to happen, of course. For seriously fast weight loss, however, there's one method that works every time, provided you stick rigidly to the foods and quantities specified. It's called the 3-day diet and the good news is that you don't have to exercise to make it work.
Dating back to 1985 or thereabouts, no one really knows where it started or who actually 'owns' it, but the claim is that you can lose up to 10 pounds in the three days you are following the diet. Now that really is impressive.
Are there any downsides? Well, first of all, it's not a healthy eating regime that you can pursue all your life to keep you slim. The advice is that you do it for three days at a time then revert back to your 'normal' eating patterns for four or five days, followed by a further 3-day diet and so on.
It is little more than a very low-calorie diet, where much of the weight lost is just fluid, with little actual fat being shed at all. Daily calorie intake is 800 - 900 and dieters are instructed to stick exactly to the quantities laid down - neither more nor less.
What happens after the three days? You guessed it - the weight comes piling back on again. Known as yo-yo dieting - for obvious reasons - this is certainly not the way to lead a healthy, balanced life.
But don't dismiss it. It may not be suitable long-term, but it has a very specific usefulness if fast weight loss is your goal. Perhaps you are going to a special party, maybe a wedding, maybe even an interview for that dream job. All of these are events that demand out of the ordinary treatment. And for these purposes the 3-day diet will help you achieve your goal. Even as much as 10 pounds in 3 days has been claimed.
As well as fast weight loss, proponents of the diet claim that it will help cleanse your body system, lower cholesterol and increase your energy levels, though no scientific research papers have been produced to substantiate this. There is also no mention of exercise, which underlines the fact that it is not intended as anything more than a short, sharp crash diet.
Most diets have a bias towards a particular objective. If yours is fast (though probably temporary) weight loss then the 3-day diet may well suit you. For other, less drastic ways to improve your shape and reduce your weight, a range of alternatives is available.
