Low Fat Diet Verses High Fat Diet - Which One Should You Choose?

There are new ways of thinking in the world of weight loss and diets today. Instead of just concentrating on the foods we eat, the amounts of foods consumed or counting calories, researchers are beginning to realise that there is more to losing weight than just the consumption of food. The new successful diets of today concentrate on how the body works, one's metabolism and the fat burning processes.

The title of this article may be confusing to some. A "high fat diet?" most would say "there is no such thing", but as mentioned above, research is showing that with certain manipulation of the way we eat foods, and the way we combine certain foods, affects the way our bodies burn fat.

Most of the diets we know, advise us to eat a low fat diet, and to only eat the healthy 'good fats'. This is correct. The healthy, successful best selling diets of today, such as Weight Watchers or Fat Loss 4 Idiots, correctly advise one to eat a varied diet of healthy food, lots of vegetables, three fruits a day, four proteins a day, three grains or carbohydrates a day. Three dairy products are also allowed. So these diets would be termed 'low fat diets' and they do work. Fat Loss 4 Idiots actually is much newer that Weight Watchers and with the new scientific research and evidence it shows you how to manipulate your metabolism into working faster, therefore weight loss is achieved at a much faster rate.

I'll share a few secrets of the diet Fat Loss 4 Idiots with you. It teaches you how to eat more food at one meal, and a little food at the next, while also eating different "types" of calories at each meal.. One keeps 'shifting calories' this way. Your metabolism is so confused, it never has time to adapt and therefore slow down, so it works fast, all the time, burning up calories.

There are a few diets which are also successful and they are 'high fat diets'. These diets can only work if you consume either very few carbohydrates or none at all. Plus no sugar at all is allowed. The reasoning behind this is, if the body does not have carbohydrates or sugar to burn off, it turns to your own fat in your body to burn.

Take the Dr Atkins diet for example. You are allowed very few carbohydrates, but one is allowed high fat. Even the unhealthy fats like whipped cream are allowed as the body burns it off, and the fat does not stay in the body. Another high fat diet which is gaining in popularity is called 'My Big Fat Diet'. No carbohydrates at all are allowed, but you are allowed to eat any fats, good or bad. Whipped cream, the fat from meats or poultry, bacon, eggs or even butter are allowed. Again, with no carbohydrates in the body, all that fat plus your own body fat will be burned off.

So as you can see, both low fat and high fat diets, if combined with the correct foods, and eaten in the prescribed pattern, do work. In both cases, you will lower your cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes, and become happier and healthier. If trying to pick between the two however, I would choose the better balanced diets, as high fat diets have been known to cause harm to your kidneys... Always consult a physician first!
