Vegetarian Diet - Vegetable Based Diet That Helps You Lose Weight

This diet focuses on mainly eating plants for food. These include vegetables, peas, beans, fruits, seeds, nuts and grains. There is no clearly definition on how a vegetable diet should be. There are varying eating patterns for vegetarians or for someone trying the vegetarian diet.

The first pattern is the vegan diet which excludes all animal products as well as meat. There is a diet that includes dairy products and plant foods. This is known as the lacto vegetarian diet. The last eating pattern you can consider while on this diet is the lacto-ovo vegetarian diet. This includes eggs and the dairy products but no meat. The vegetarian diet has an advantage; you are not deprived of nutrients. But you also have to be keen and have a variety of vegetables to get all the nutrients that you require. Some nutrients are not so readily available for example iron, zinc, calcium and vitamin B12. The vegetarian diet is healthy because it is low on saturated fats as well as cholesterol. This makes you less prone to obesity, heart diseases, high blood pressure and some forms of cancer.

You should have a low intake of sweets because they are low in nutrients and have a lot of calories. It is advisable to use enriched cereal products or whole, unrefined grain products. This also helps with your digestive system. Always have fruits and vegetables that are good sources of vitamins for example Vitamin C and A. If you can not do without dairy products, make sure they fat-free or of low fat content. Eggs might be allowed in the diet but you need to be keen because they are high in cholesterol.
