Did you know you could be killing yourself slowly without knowing it? You could be, if you're eating foods loaded with cholesterol. Scientific research has proven that high cholesterol foods can reduce your life span by several years. By continuing to consume high cholesterol foods, you're killing yourself more every day as that fatty plaque lines your arteries more and more. For your families sake and your own, you should bring your cholesterol levels under control to within safe, life sustaining levels.
Having a well-balanced diet rich in low cholesterol foods is essential to lower cholesterol levels. But because most of us have extremely busy lives we tend to reach for junk food when our stomach starts to growl. But most of all you need to prepare low cholesterol foods at home.
Eating low cholesterol foods, like chicken, fish and lean red meat can dramatically reduce your cholesterol levels. One tip with reducing your cholesterol consumption. Most cholesterol comes from animal products such as meat and dairy products. To reduce cholesterol levels in meat consumed, trim any excess fat from your meat BEFORE you cook it. You can balance your meals with fresh vegetables and fruits. Another advantage of eating low cholesterol foods is that you can also lose weight, experience higher energy levels, greater mental alertness and less stress.
Additionally, eating fish is an excellent way to reduce cholesterol levels. The Omega 3 fish oils contained in fish helps to reduce bad cholesterol while boosting good cholesterol. Medical professionals recommend consuming fish at least 2-3 times per week (can be breakfast, lunch or dinner)
The good news is that not all low cholesterol foods require extensive preparation. If you are unsure how to prepare low cholesterol meals, you can find low cholesterol menus online. Fruits, nuts and vegetables are excellent examples of foods that assist with lowering cholesterol which require little or no preparation. Since they require no cooking, it's easy to use them as snacks. Additionally, rather than heading out for a burger and fries at lunchtime, carry a fresh tuna or chicken salad, balanced with low fat yogurt and fruit.
Drinking lots of water also helps lower cholesterol levels. Besides keeping you hydrated, it also helps flush excess cholesterol and other toxins from your body. Water also helps to maintain peak efficiency of normal body functions. This means the body tends to produce more good cholesterol (LDL) rather than bad (HDL). So remember the rule of thumb... 8 glasses per day!
Low cholesterol foods also help support your immune system making it easier to fight off disease. So when you have a diet rich in low cholesterol foods it is beneficial all around. Of course, lowering overall cholesterol levels reduces the likelihood of developing atherosclerosis (fatty deposits in artery walls), heart disease and stroke.
