Things to Know About Cholesterol - Is it Too Low?

Many people are not aware that if the cholesterol count in the human body is too low, many different problems can occur. With all the warnings about high cholesterol, it is sometimes hard to believe that low cholesterol is just as dangerous. Research has shown that cholesterol too low can greatly affect the serotonin levels in the brain. This can often lead to depression and anxiety.

To avoid having cholesterol problems, either too low or too high, is the first step in finding the right diet and treatment. Your doctor can do blood tests to find out the cholesterol level and can help elevate the level with diet and sometimes medication. Your doctor is the only one that tell what the levels are, therefore, the only one that can help keep them at a normal rate.

There are a couple medical conditions that cause the cholesterol level to be lower than normal. Hyperthyroidism and liver disease are just a couple conditions that can affect the cholesterol level, often making them low enough to cause further problems. Although there are no specific studies to state the fact, many believe that cholesterol levels can affect someones overall health.

The level of cholesterol in the body should be less than 200mg/dL. The LDL cholesterol level should be around half that of the total level. There are a couple symptoms that point to cholesterol levels being too low. Lose of appetite and weight lose is just a couple of signs that the cholesterol levels in the body may need checked.

When a doctor makes the diagnosis for low cholesterol, next he will to tests to see what is causing the problem. Low cholesterol for any extended amount of time can cause other more serious medical conditions. Twenty percent of the brain's fluid is cholesterol and this level should be closely monitored.

There was a drug developed to control cholesterol was introduced to the public, but soon withdrawn from the shelves of pharmacies. The drug was linked to conditions such as gallstones, liver disease and pancreas problem. There are other medications on the market that your doctor can prescribe to help control cholesterol levels.

When wanting to know about your cholesterol, you should only rely on your doctor. The physician can run tests and not only find out the level, but find out what is causing the level to be abnormal. The doctor will then discuss how to treat and control the level.
