HDL-LDL Cholesterol - Causes, Effects and Solution

Being healthy not only means a life without any diseases, but also a life with better physical and mental state. The modern world offers a lot of diseases to human beings along with solution. One of the major concerns for human health, for ages, is the cholesterol problem.

Cholesterol in the human body is being produced naturally by the combination of fat or lipid along with steroid. Liver takes a major part in the production, as it produces two third of the total cholesterol in human body. The liver has the ability to regulate the cholesterol levels in the blood stream and it can secrete cholesterol as and when the body requires. The remaining one third part of cholesterol is produced by the food consumed by human. Meat, chicken, fish, potatoes and milk products give a major contribution for diet based cholesterol.

There are different types of blood cholesterol and not every one of those threatens human health. The two major category of cholesterol are Low Density Lipoprotein commonly called as LDL and the High Density Lipoprotein, HDL.

Low-density lipoprotein (or LDL) cholesterol is considered as a bad type of cholesterol because it causes serious problems like clogging the blood vessels and it controls the flow of the blood, which increases the chances of heart disease. High-density lipoprotein (or HDL) cholesterol on the other side is a good type of cholesterol which helps in eliminating the LDL cholesterol from the blood and thus it reduces the risk for heart disease. Both these cholesterol are essential for proper functioning of human body and it turns against the body only when it finds itself in excess.

The level of cholesterol in body can be found by examining the blood. If the total cholesterol is less than 200 mg/dL and the HDL-cholesterol is 40 mg/dL or greater, then there is no problem with the cholesterol levels. If the total cholesterol turns out to be is less than 200 mg/dL and the HDL cholesterol less than 40 mg/dL, then the person needs a lipoprotein profile to find out the LDL-cholesterol. If the total cholesterol is found between 200 to 239 mg/dL and the HDL-cholesterol is 40 mg./dL or greater, then the person has to be examined for other risk factors regarding heart disease and further results can be achieved by performing more tests, including a lipoprotein profile to find out the LDL-cholesterol.

Controlling the cholesterol mainly depends on the diet consumed. One of the natural medicines for controlling cholesterol is Garlic. Intake of more garlic really helps in reducing cholesterol level. The person having cholesterol problem should avoid eating meat and egg and milk products too, though skimmed milk is advisable. To meet the calorie requirement one should add more fruits such as grapes, apple, along with green vegetables and food items with more fiber to his diet. Vitamins E and C helps in controlling the cholesterol level, so items that are rich in those vitamins are advisable. Other than these people can also opt for Oat meal and olive oil.

Treating cholesterol includes various options such as Vasacor, which is a natural daily supplement to promote healthy cholesterol levels, Low-dose aspirin which may help the user by avoiding heart attacks and blood clots, Beta-blockers which are meant for reducing heart attack risks and Anti-hypertensives for people having high blood pressure.
