We all love our food, and the majority of us never really question what effect the food we are eating is having on our bodies. It is no surprise then, that heart disease is one of the major killers. The sad thing is, a lot of us can avoid it, by learning to choose foods to lower cholesterol and exercising.

Cholesterol lowering diets do not mean starvation! You absolutely must get the necessary daily nutrients to keep your body functioning and to avoid additional health problems.

The recommended foods to lower cholesterol are as follows:

Fruits And Vegetables

Eat apples, oranges, broccoli, peas, sprouts, pears etc.

Grains

Eat brown rice, oats bran, oatmeal, barley, cereals, whole wheat bread, pasta etc.

Milk, Yogurt, Cottage Cheese

Manage your intake of these products and choose low fat or skimmed options

Manage the portion of nuts you take. It is easy to consume way too many. Eating a handful of nuts a day is more than sufficient.

Now, I know you are probably thinking, well, that list of foods to lower cholesterol is boring, unachievable and difficult to sustain. So I am listing foods you can eat, but in small quantities and less often. Combined with the above, they will ensure you do not feel deprived.

Food you need to eat less of are:

Cookies, Crackers, Cakes, Biscuits

You need to avoid products made from hydrogenated oils. So check the labelling.

Overeating these affects cholesterol. Candies and chocolate are high in fat so watch your daily fat intake.
