Why Ignore A Menopause Diet? It Does the Trick After All

When women reach menopause, whatever they decide to eat usually plays a key role in determining how well or how badly they will be able to manage this phase in their lives. A proper menopause diet is often recommended so as to help them cope with the condition. By sticking to the diet, one usually does not need to take any form of medical treatment which may in the end make her be subjected to numerous side effects that follow afterward s. Apart from suffering from the side effects, other forms of treatment can make you spend lots of money and time as you try to get the right cure something that you can easily avoid if you decide to stick to the diet.

Menopause diet is usually divided into two groups. The first group of the diet is used to manage menopause symptoms. Here, foods that contain phytoestrogens are usually recommended to be included in ones diet. Phytoestrogens are plant estrogens that easily bind to the estrogen receptors found in the body. Once phytoestrogens are bound to the receptors, they often help women fight many of the menopause symptoms such as hot flashes and sleeping disturbances. Foods that are known to contain phytoestrogens include, beans, apples, potatoes, yams, soy and carrots. On the other hand, foods rich in carbohydrates should also be frequently taken by menopausal women so as to help them manage their mood swings well. Carbohydrates usually raise one's sorotin (a hormone that controls a person's moods) levels in the body. When this occurs, controlling one's moods is usually an easy thing to do. Foods rich in carbohydrates that should be taken include, bagels, whole grain breads and cereals as well as sandwiches.

However, apart from eating foods that help you fight menopause symptoms, you should also try and avoid consuming foods that may help trigger them. Spicy foods, coffee, tea, alcohol, colas and foods containing refined sugars are examples of food items known to trigger hot flashes.

The other group of menopause diets include foods that are used to prevent menopause complications. Fruits and vegetables are foods that will help prevent heart diseases such as presence of high cholesterol in the body, heart attacks, clogged arteries and stroke from attacking menopausal women. The reason why this happens is due to the fact that, vegetables and fruits help to cleanse arteries as well as help provide you with beneficial vitamins together with nutrients needed by the body system.

In order to complement the efforts that help prevent heart diseases, you should try to reduce or exclude high levels of saturated fats in your diet. This will help the arteries not to be clogged up easily while at the same time, help bring down cholesterol levels in the body. To prevent Osteoporosis (a condition brought about by existence of low levels of bone mass and in return making bones to become brittle and easily fractured), menopausal women should include foods rich in calcium in their diet. To achieve this, food items such as low fat yogurt, milk as well as soy milk should be regularly taken.
